Spending time together!

August 1, 2013

IMG_1039In our busyness with the business of the day, we often don’t have time to take time for each other.  One important way to make time for your family is to sit down and eat dinner together. Turn off the t.v., save money on take out, and prepare, eat, and enjoy a meal together. There are eight very important reasons for eating dinner together that directly affect your wallet, your health, and your children’s development and education.

In an online article from Health magazine, it says that since 1998 families who eat dinner together at least five times a week has increased from 47% to 59%.  That’s an encouraging 12% increase! So many people are feeling the benefits of it!  Here are some of those benefits:

1. Enjoy eating and be with your family instead of always eating on the go. Many families are doing it, you can too!

2. Your kids will begin to enjoy more vegetables and fruit which are so much more healthy that the fried, fatty, and fast choices we have, today.

3. You can introduce new foods to your children!

4. You can control how much your child eats. Food portions in restaurants are usually 60% more than they should be. Help control your child’s weight with the portions he or she needs!

5. Eating together supports a healthy social and emotional life for your child: “Studies have shown that kids who eat with their families frequently are less likely to get depressed, consider suicide, and develop an eating disorder. They are also more likely to delay sex and to report that their parents are proud of them.”  Eating together also promotes healthy choices like saying NO to drugs and supports children working for those good grades in school.
